Menu Plan Monday -15 April 2013

menubutton
We had a whack of snow and a lot of people were freaking out.  But as I expected it's nearly all done today.  It's supposed to be nice all week.  Colin got the greenhouse up and going, just in time.  Some of the tomato plants are really getting leggy and need real light.  This last bit of snow has really helped with the water levels.  The Snake River is starting to flood.  I was getting worried about the lack of water laying around.

Luckily Colin and Ella went for a walk down the railroad bed (the other direction).  It seems the idiots guys that took down the telegraph poles blocked up all the drains with rocks.  No wonder my front yard is pooling with water!  Colin was able to shovel out enough to get the water moving and you can already see a difference this morning.

oven fried chicken
Tuesday:

tenderloin
Wednesday:

Menu Plan Monday -1 April 2013

I think Mother Nature is playing an April Fool’s trick on us today.  In Pembroke folks woke up to a dusting of snow.  We don’t have snow but it’s 0C with a very miserable north west wind.  Looking out the window it looks much more like November than April.
Bit of a menu change this week.  We ended up having an Easter/birthday dinner with Colin’s family.  Colin’s Dad is 71 on the 4th.
Grandpa
Since we went to church in Ottawa I decided to make my slow roasted porkwith Memphis dust, that way I could toss it in the oven before we left.  My SIL Elizabeth took care of everything else.
Easter Ella
As you can see, Ella got quite the haul from the Easter bunny (among others).  Great Grandma got Ella a chocolate bunny and a much loved squishy pink bunny.  My girl has such a good heart.  After finding ‘all’ of her eggs she came over to me with a handful of eggs and said “these are for you Momma”.

steak sandwiches
leftover roast pork
Tuesday:
spaghetti and meatballs
sticky chicken
Wednesday:
pb&h
sugar pancakes
Thursday:
shirred eggs

Well that was a fun weekend -not!!  We were supposed to go to Colin's cousin's in Quebec yesterday.  We were going to go see their beautiful new house (cousin built himself).  His sister and her kids were coming and the cousins have 2 kids too.  It was going to be a great day.  Unfortunately, Ella woke up Saturday with a sore throat and by Saturday evening the throwing up had started (I don't know why that happens every time she gets a cold).  Oh my, was she sick!  Ella and I got no sleep.  By 6 am Sunday she was finally feeling better.  Needless to say, Ella (and I) was in no condition for a party.  She's feeling much better today but very congested and a very sore nose.  I need to find some flannel and make her some handkerchiefs.
Not sure how much school is getting done this week but we'll have to see.  I need to catch up on laundry and a few thing around here.  So maybe it won't be a bad thing if Ella just lays around for a few days.

tacos (didn't make them on Saturday)
rouladen and mashed potatoes
Tuesday:
??
sesame noodles -new Pioneer Woman cook book (likely add pork too)

Menu Plan Monday -18 March 2013

Yesterday was bright and sunny but cold.  We went to church in Ottawa and then a bit of shopping.
Colin’s aunt died on Saturday (Dad’s youngest sister).  Judy was 55.  She had down’s syndrome so actually lived a good long life.  I think Judy has been missing Isobel (her ‘go-to’ person) as she hasn’t been herself since Isobel died.  Judy went peacefully in her sleep and the nursing home staff found her Saturday morning.  Not a bad way to go, I guess.
Dad is taking it well.  With Judy’s age, it was a shock but not really a surprise.  And he’s seen her decline over these last few months.  Luckily, his sister (in Harrow) and his brothers and SILs up here are really stepping up and helping out.  I was afraid he’d have to make all the arrangements and deal with everything himself since he’s the eldest.
Wow, first Mom, then Colin’s sister’s FIL, and now Aunt Judy -let’s hope that’s our 3 bad things.  We’ve had enough ‘nonsense’ to last us a few years.
Monday:
pizza
shoulder chops
Tuesday:
pb&h
KFC
Wednesday:
pb & h
German pancakes (sugar pancakes as Ella calls them)
Thursday:

Home from groceries.  Why is it that if there is going to be a miserable day in the forecast it's always on grocery day??  Actually it shouldn't be that bad out there.  We had a high of 0 C, the problem being the ridiculous east wind.  Not only is it blowing through the house it's causing a lot of drifting on the highways.
Should be a quieter week this week, though we have Daddy's birthday quickly approaching.

Sunday:
slow roasted pork with Memphis dust -we had Grandpa over so I made this again
Monday:
pb&h
store chicken and rice
Tuesday:
chicken sandwiches
leftover roast pork
Wednesday:
pizza
dance so Daddy feeds himself

Yet another snow day in Renfrew county.  At this rate the kids will be in school until August.  Ella actually gets a snow day today too.  Grandma took her home on Saturday because I had succumbed to Ella's cold and needed some sleep.  This morning it's snowing too hard, so Ella will stay in Beachburg.

Man, some days satellite internet is so frustrating.  We had some crazy fog Sunday so no internet and then we were out most of Monday too (not sure why).
Christmas has been all cleaned up for another year.  Wow, does it ever make the living room look big once the tree goes out!  It also helps that I removed the pine box.  It went upstairs to become non-see-through Christmas storage.  I'm hoping to get back to cleaning out/organizing the storage room.  All my work in there was undone after Isobel died.  We are getting back into school too, one of the great things about homeschool.  We can take a whack of time off and not be 'behind'.

sausage and eggs
hot beef sandwiches
Wednesday:

Christmas Eve Menu Plan -24 December 2012

christmas tree
The Christmas Season is finally upon us!  We're having a scaled-back Christmas this year.  I realized half-way through last week that there was no way I was getting the cookies made -not without killing myself and being miserable with Ella.  So for the first time in I don't know how long (since high school), I will not be giving out boxes of cookies to my family and friends.  And my house will just have to be in the state that it is.  I didn't get it organized as I wanted.  In fact, it got messier because we needed in the closet where I had stuff piled waiting to be sorted.  Oh well, now I know what my New Year's resolution will be  :)
My Solstice supper didn't go as planned either.  We got such a storm Friday that  Teresa and Terence couldn't get out their own driveway, let alone to Cobden.  AND Grandma got stranded here for the night.
company
Which worked out well for me.  Our power went out at 3 am and Ella wakes up immediately.  She's frightened of the dark, but I'm not sure how it wakes her up so quickly.  Once Daddy had the generator on we all tried to go to sleep but Ella was wide awake and wanting to know when she can get up (my answer '7 like always').  Grandma said for Ella to come down with her -Ella was a happy camper.
Let's hope this week goes as planned.

Menu Plan Monday -17 December 2012

holidaympm-1
I don't think I've ever told you how much I love Menu Planning.  It makes my weeks so much easier and it saves us lots of money.  I shop every 2 weeks, so you have to know what you are feeding everyone.  I hate being in the stores in the weeks around Christmas.  It's such a zoo and my patience goes right out the window.  So on the 7th when I was making my grocery list, I made a list to get us right through to the new year.  Yep, I don't have to do groceries (except milk and a few things) until the 7th of January!  And now I truly thank God that I did this (and that my Mom took my list and did my groceries on Tuesday for me).  Now I don't have to try and think of what to feed us these days.  I'm going around in such a fog from losing Colin's Mom that I don't think I could get meals ready too.  But because of Menu Planning I DON'T HAVE TO THINK! I just look at the menu board and make what it says.

This week is everything Christmas.  We need to get and decorate our tree, I have no baking done (thank goodness I have probably half the dough I need in the freezer), and my Mom is doing my cards this year because I just don't have the heart for them.  I also have to prepare because I'm having a Solstice dinner on Friday for my good friend Teresa and her son Terrance.   My Ella is coming home today, Daddy really needed to sleep yesterday so she hung out (and played in the blizzard) with Grandma.

Monday:
pizza
lasagna
Tuesday:
pork sandwiches
meatloaf
Wednesday:
pizza
l/o lasagna
Thursday:
potato pancakes
l/o meatloaf
Friday: Winter Solstice
sandwiches
turkey, roast potatoes, glazed carrots, and pavlova (probably)
Saturday:
cowboy casserole
spaghetti
Sunday:
leftover turkey and whatnot

A bit of snow out there, but still not looking very Christmasy yet.  In fact, we’re getting freezing rain today.  Buses are cancelled all over the County and I can’t get out for groceries.  Now that Colin has all the corn finally combined it can snow all it wants.
This week we’ll really start moving along with our Advent preparations.  We might even be getting the tree this week (a little earlier than usual).  Time to start baking cookies and treats.

crockpot country style ribs
Wednesday:
pizza
tacos
Thursday:

leftover ribs
Friday:
